RE: Wal-Mart parking lot
NO AC??? The day I am so poor I have to give up AC will be the last day that I RV myself. Life sucks enough with AC, don't want to be without it. I tented in my boy scout years, certainly not now.
there are lots of campgrounds with electricity in the 15-20$ area if you have PA. what does it cost to run a gen set for a bunch of hours at $4.50 gasoline?
bumpy
There you go again, grumpy....uh, I mean bumpy. :B
RE: Wal-Mart parking lot
Ihave not stayed in a Wal mart and probably will never do it. I have the same feeling of insecurity that you have. I probably would not rest or sleep, so whats to gain. And one other thing if you have to run your gen set for 8 hours to stay cool so you can try to sleep, who pays for the fuel that the gen set burns? 1/2gallon per hour would be 4 gallons at $4.50 a gallon would be $18.00. So there goes the FREE site. I have the same feeling of insecurity that you have.
Okay, so how can you have the "same feeling of insecurity" as the poster asking the question if you have never stayed at one and have no experience regarding the matter? Maybe you have insecurity issues just by pulling in a Walmart parking lot to run in and pick up a few things. :h That would mean that you have bigger issues than overnighting. You just might pull in that Walmart and sleep like a baby. Give it a try first, then explain your feelings. Just a thought after your post popped out at me. That is like me telling someone that I hate sushi when I've never tried it. I don't know if I like it or not. It just doesn't sound good to me. Again....:h
RE: Name my Rig
Ours is passionately named "SPOILEDROTTEN", as you can see in the pics. See over the rear window and on the lower portion of the front, as you would see on a ship.

We have a lot of fun with that name. Get something that is special to you. Name it yourself. It will mean more and when someone ask you how you came up with that name, you can give them a good reason other than..."Oh, some guy/gal on RVNet told me to name it that!".
RE: Uh Oh. Bite off more than we can chew? (Ford Explorer)
I have owned several Explorers. My son in law is driving one of them now. It sounds like you have the trailer towing gears and package. With the V8 it will have plenty of power. I would do my best to tow without carrying water if possible. Keep it light as possible.
It's not the weight as much as the footprint of the TV. The explorer is such a small vehicle. I had the 5.0L V-8 in my Eddie Bauer, but that was like pulling a billboard down the road. When vans, other campers, 18-wheelers passed me, I looked like I was running the cones in a slalom course.
RE: Uh Oh. Bite off more than we can chew? (Ford Explorer)
How long is your new TT? When I had a TT and an Explorer, the TT was 26' and I had white knuckles after being on the road for a short distance. I didn't keep that Explorer very long. We loved the EX, but not for pulling that TT. Good luck.
RE: 10 year rule
Now SpoiledRotten, I have something to say .
That fifth wheel you posted doesn't look all that bad. But I would have few suggestions for that unit, as I could make it look far better in less than a day.
Take a beige canvass, (not a tarp, tarps are ugly) hang it around the overhang, and put the bike and loose objects out of sight. the overhang makes a great utility area.
It is amazing what a coat of paint would do for for that unit. it looks very solid and square. that broken window could also be fixed in 15 min.
I have no control over the action of those campers, but I wonder how many people just had a friendly talk with THEM before bi*ching to the management??? not one Ill bet.
I see clutter, where is the trash? did it blow away?
was this their primary residence or did you bother to ask?
I come from a rural area in Kentucky. We helped each other. it wouldn't have hurt anything to get some men together and paint that unit. It could have been done in an evening.
Perhaps I'm a relic, and helping your neighbor is an alien concept to some people. Give the people a hand up, not a hand-out.
Now let's see a picture of your rig and site. and just what prompted you to take that photo in the first place?
My opinion
Andrew Taylor
What prompted me to take that picture was another topic on this forum. I don't mind giving people an "hand up". I've given a 5 year old car to a newly acquired friend only a very few years ago. If someone shows that they care, then I care. It's hard for you to think anything bad about the ones that camped in that camper because 1)you weren't there to have to put up with their garbage or 2)you might be able to relate since you might be that type person yourself. "Birds of a feather....."
There was a contract in place so that contract had to end before they could be evicted. I watched them, many times, stand outside talking on their cell phone, walking past paper cups or plate, or packaging that had blown from there garbage pile, or drive over that same trash for days. The management had to send someone over to that site to pick up junk so it would curb some of the complaining from the other campers, until the contract expired. Some times they would address the trash by kicking it to one side of the concrete pad. Now you say helping them out... That is BS when they don't care enough to even pick up a tin can that is laying around. You might go over and pick up their garbage while they are too lazy and sorry to do it themselves, but what does that accomplish? Do you think I'm going to a campground to be a sanitation engineer for all of the other campers. I did pick up several items that blew into my area. Wake up! Some people are just plain sorry and trashy. Some just don't care! Some will stop at a red light and empty their full ash tray, or throw out their McDonald's bag of trash into the road. Maybe you follow these people and stop and pick up after them. Not me. I'll call the cops and try to get them cited with a penalty for messing up this state and country. You keep being everyone's mommy or daddy. That action does nothing but encourage them to be trashier, since they know that someone will be coming behind them to clean up. I will not. If that does not put a goodie tag on me, then so be it. I'm an adult and I am responsible for my actions. Being poor has nothing to do with being trashy. I've seem many poor people that were very organized and clean. Trash is trash.
As far as my site goes... I don't have a recent pic of the site that I've been on for a year and a half now that is across from where that trash bunch was, but I'll take one this weekend and edit this post with it. You can see my rig in some of my previous posts if you search. My wife, daughter and I take pride in ourselves and our possessions.
I don't care how old someone's rig is. Some people just don't care about junk around it. No one in the world but them. Be careful about what you say about the junk around the camper. You might be the same ones that b***h about someone's loud music, kids running through your lot, televisions playing out while you are doing your "bird watching" or people getting drunk and talking and laughing louder than you think they should be. This is another form of aggrevation. It's just not happening to you at the time. There are many older campers in this campground, but they are still there because they care about how they look and they abide by the campground rules. Some don't care about rules at all.
I suppose it would be okay if you were swimming in the CG swimming pool and someone brought their old mangy, matted dog, covered with fleas and ticks, in and allowed it to jump in the pool? Would you just turn the other way, start playing with the dog, or get out and complain to the manager because they didn't care about anyone that was paying good money to enjoy the CG and the amenities?
tempola, you only have a few post on here so far (3), but I'll be watching your posts. I'll call you on every post that is complaining about someone else and/or their actions around you. You'll try not to post anything neg, but you will slip up at some time. I would like to see your rig (with you standing beside it). I've already let you know that you can see mind in previous posts. Maybe you'll be honest enough not to post a pic of you standing beside someone else's rig. Show us the real you!
This is my rig. Again, I'll post pics of it set up, just for you.

RE: Towing without W/D bars
Make sure that if your truck is strong enough to handle it, your ball mount is strong enough. If you have one of those ball mounts that is good for the big loads, you will be okay (I'm talking about one that is usually rated for 10,000#). I used a dealership issued ball mount (the hollow shaft type) and found that after using it some, I saw stress cracks in the mount where it comes out of the 2" receiver. I started, at that point, using the W/D bars.
RE: 10 year rule
I have posted this pic before, after I took it of a camper that was paying by the month, across from me. They had an old, crappy looking camper, with trash for occupants. They would allow their garbage to blow all over the campground, including my lot. They would simply kick trash out of their way rather than pic it up and finally, after enough people complained, were evicted.

RE: 10 year rule
less RV sites X more RV's = higher prices
sometimes much higher.
as you move to the parks 5 miles farther away they become busier and can charge more, maybe adopt more rules like this. you then have to move 10 miles away.
I am not as good as most at expressing myself as many here, but what is so hard to understand.
Ok, so you are talking about less campgrounds due to development. Again, no one can force the owner of their land to do something with it they don't want to. I understand what you are saying, and yes, if development keeps up at this rate, most likely campground owners will feel the need to sell out. But there is NOTHING you or I can do about it.
Tell the people that were just forced off of THEIR land to build a Nissan plant just north of where I live. That land had been in their family for many years. Developement/Government said they have to pack their things and get out. If you don't like the price they offer, they might offer a little more, but you WILL get out.
RE: Prices dropping like a rock on RVs????????????
There doesn't seem to be much selling at the Mid Range on E-Bay either! There isn't much incentive to bid on something that has a starting bid higher than what it should sell for. Or A "No Reserve" that shows a starting price period! To Me No Reserve should mean "ALL" Offers and the Highest Bid Buys it!
I agree, but there are lots of tricks to get around selling at the lowest bid on ebay if you don't want it to go for that.
RE: Prices dropping like a rock on RVs????????????
I feel its like buying a automobile today.
GM has had a 72 hour sale to get rid of their Trucks.
To me I rather wait a few months and see what I can get NEW.
Yes I can buy something NEW today for cash on Ebay or local.
But I would hate to see that if I waited till sept or oct I could have save at least another $5000,$10,000.
I feel many companys will be out of business,But even if you pay MSRP they still can go out of business.
Too me I rather fly from NYC and take a cab from the airport to wherever my RV will be.I have only been looking on the websites the last year
But since the economy sucks, maybe it will be the time to buy something...
I am not looking for something as a tradein(but then again you never know}
UPDATED
I pay cash for my car every 2 or 3 years...
Why would I want to pay interest on something I can just pay off in cash and not worry about a payment??Thanks JT
So, you are "supposedly" a responsible buyer and want to wait to get a newer than new automobile. I'll keep paying cash for the clean, slightly used ones and let people like you take the depreciation hit up front.
I just want to use it as a getaway for a month or 2 a year.I would think it would off set the hotel cost....Jt
RE: Prices dropping like a rock on RVs????????????
Geeeee
....SNIP....
For now I rather stay in a hotel and have room service.
Maybe when sept comes around and I know the market has droped, then I will invest is a RV ......
Then why even waste your time on RVNet?
RE: Let My Neighbor Borrow/Rent My TT?
Did someone loan you theirs to see if you were going to like it? More than likely, no! If he is interested in camping, he can find a dealership just like you did, or find a used one in the classified adds. You aren't obligated to loan out high dollar items to "friends".
RE: Let My Neighbor Borrow/Rent My TT?
If you go through with this, it might be the end of a good friendship!
When you end up on Judge Joe Brown, wave at all of your RVNet friends. We'll be watching. :B
RE: Something I don't know, but we should think about
just have me cremated where I die then put my box on the dash board for the ride home :B
Careful you don't tip over and get down into the ventilation system :B
I wonder if inhaling uncle sylvester would be as inhaling second hand smoke.

RE: Something I don't know, but we should think about
Prop them up in the passenger's seat and head back to the house. When you get there, let the home town funeral home take over. :B Kind of like the old country song, "Prop me up by the juke box, when I die".
You could give a loved one that one final road trip. :B
RE: Outdoor TV and stereo systems YES or NO?
Don't have it, don't want it. Much happier with the extra storage space. Two TVs in a MH is enough! If I'm sitting outdoors in the evening I'm watching the ocean, watching a sunset, talking to friends, reading, or just enjoying the peace and quiet.
We agree.
Maybe our being fulltimers has something to do with it (and maybe not), but we go outside to enjoy a nice fire, chat with our neighbors, enjoy the scenery, cook out, and a variety of other things, none of which include watching TV. For TV watching, we go inside (like we did when we had a stick house).
However, we know some folks who have the exterior TV and like it. Then again, we know others who also have it but don't care for or use it that much.
I think the "fulltiming" aspect really does have an affect on many views of camping. We HAD some friends and loved camping with them. We traveled campgrounds and had a great time. We helped each other when needed then they chose to sale the house and turn to full-timing. Talk about a change. They no longer wanted to go anywhere. Their whole outlook on camping changed. They were "fun no more". When the 5er became their home, they looked at it differently. Maybe some of your camping "joy" leaves you when you go to full timing. JMO but it seems to be that way with some. You read through posts in all kinds of topics and the ones that don't "tolerate" anyone else seem to be the ones that are full timing. I'm certainly not slamming full-timers. Just noting an observation.
RE: Under counter coffee maker - question???
We have one that fits in the cabinet below the galley sink. We do leave the cabinets open while brewing and while it's on to avoid the steam ruining the finish on the cabinets.
RE: Camping lights/Decor!!!!!!
We have a awning that we put a strand of lights on and then we have a canopy that we have over the picnic table and have a strand of colorful globe lights on. We found a dimmer to add to our lights to dim them when we want to just sit around the campfire. We found that we don't have to use a lantern as much. We also have two tiki torches going also. We deffinitely get into our lights and try to be festive during the seasons. This is something we enjoy as a family when we camp and walk around the campsites to see others different decor. There was one light fixture we saw this last time we went camping that I would like to have and have not found it yet, it was a 3ft to 4ft little old man holding a lantern and it was sitting at the end of the camp site and the lantern lights up (still looking for me one).
OH yes, I forgot the wind chimes. only thing more annoying other than a $250 gen set running during quiet hours, or at anytime for that matter.
bumpy
Going through some of your posts, are you sure you don't want to change your name to GRUMPY rather than bumpy?
